CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT OF THESSALONIKI

Central Business District of Thessaloniki was an international competition promoted by Alumil,conducted in accordance with UNESCO/UIA.
The competition was aiming to highlight innovative design as the ideal tool for the success of the new Central Business District (CBD) of Thessaloniki.
Our proposed intervention in this strategic location of the city creates the following opportunities within Thessaloniki’s spatio-temporal narrative:
Along the horizontal axis: the continuum of public space that is created concurrently at ground and skyline levels by this intervention, as it interplays with other urban attractors, will foster new urban relations. The pedestrian pathways generate trajectories and vistas that bring the ocean back to the city.
Along the vertical axis: what we propose is an iconic intervention, one which not only establishes a dialogue across time and space with Thessaloniki’s White Tower, but becomes a new landmark stating the urgent need to reconceive the relationship between human society and the planet into the future.
